My understanding of how GPS works.
- satellites orbiting earth send out a signal.
The GPS chip picks up that signal and is
able to measure its relationship to the satellites.
The GPS unit then feeds the info through to the Auto Pilot
which would have a flight plan.
The auto pilot is able to make adjustments to flying so that the UAV
remains on a predetermined course and
remains level at the right altitude.
A signal sent from the Auto Pilot will inform the user of the UAV's location. Software and google maps will plot location.
If the UAV fly's too far away and its signal is momentarily lost, then it will go dark (location lost). But it will continue to stay on course at a specified altitude.
The UAV will complete all its way points before returning.
The auto pilots are very advanced and are more that adequate to fly a UAV even under challenging conditions.
